I have heard *many* times, from *many* people, how much they prefer the environment of our chat to that of lots of other raiding guilds. Sexual conversation, by and large, brings out the most immature aspects of lots of people, and people say obnoxious shit they would never say face-to-face.
I have zero intention of changing the "bizarre, puritanical" restrictions on chat. If this really bothers you, there are a plethora of guilds that have no restrictions on chat.

I think the conversation is generally appropriate. A lot of the time the "lexchat" knee-jerk reaction is more of a joke than a demand.
I'd hate to see us lose the respect we have for one another in gchat, raid chat, etc.
Sometimes, I'm more upset at the other things that get us off track in raid than the "off color" comments.

Well this thread has certainly taken a 180 degree turn since the last time I was in it.
As far as chat goes, I don't really feel that we have any intention to censor anyone. I don't think people in this guild find sexual humour to be particularly offensive. For the most part I have never really felt that I've been censored in anything I've wanted to say in guild chat.
Now some of the things that were going on before "lexchat" really were distracting and in some cases offensive. Its one thing for people to not get offended at sex jokes now and then, its a whole different matter when chat gets constantly spammed with sex comments (I'd say jokes, but a lot of it was more for shock value then a joke) particularly during a raid.
Also I should point out. When we talk about the past in this guild, a lot of it as you may notice is talking about how bad some things were in this guild. Things like we didn't know what the hunter pve spec was, took forever to kill Mag, we were behind Prodigy. The guild has become a lot stronger over time and obviously a large part of that is that we have brought on a lot of good new players.

I kinda like the arrangement we have now, g-chat and lexchat having different ratings. I will admit to getting out of hand when Kaercha left for 7 months, so it worked. The one thing I find so insane are the people that complain about that sort of talk having Lexchat as one of their channels. Boggles the mind.
ANYWAY.
... If you remember having a gnome alt as our guild bank and Sol updating a post with it's contents.

I have no idea the discussion that prompted this sort of reaction. But I think there's a difference between 'puritanical censorship' in the manner you're thinking of it, and the purpose for which Lexchat was made.
95% of the time, when someone says 'LEXCHAT' in guild, in raid, in vent, it is meant as a joke. Sometimes it gets said over the silliest and most patently unsexual topics you could possibly imagine (fixing a computer, eating a sandwich, etc.), which should be a pretty good indication right there. No one really balks when people tell a sex joke. Same as no one is indignantly offended and runs to some faux civil rights harrassment organization when someone tells a Hellen Keller joke, even if it's unanimously agreed that it was in bad taste.
Lexchat was designed to filter the ridiculous, needless, over-the-top sex talk that some people (most notably Solsiva and Azemir, but not always) got going an average of at least once every raid. I think the fun little adventure from raid tonight was a perfect example. I do not need to know, nor have I ever had the desire to know, nor will I likely ever have the desire to know, the mess that results from giving Kaercha a handjob, and I don't really think it makes us BETTER people for hearing about it. And that was pretty tame in comparison to some of the things that used to come up. I remember talks about some fetish of funneling eels up someone's asshole, long diatribes on tubgirl, the volume and consistency of sperm, what it tasted like, and scores of other stuff I simply can't call back to mind at 12:30 in the morning. All described in graphic detail. This isn't legitimate conversation. You might have a talk like that with a friend once IRL. It's not really a point of interest, it's garbage that people only discuss for the shock value. The same way as how whenever someone expresses disgust in a public place at the thought of eating some sort of food -- let's use cow -*test*-('")icles for this example -- there will inevitably be someone nearby who pipes up with "OH THOSE ARE DELICIOUS."
Sure, everyone over 12 knows what a penis is, knows what a vagina is, has at least some rudimentary idea of how sex goes (even if their thoughts are not always anatomically correct), has some idea of the result it produces. Yet there is a world of difference between that and subjecting them to an essay about your most perverted sexual fantasies.
